PTO Volunteer Positions for 2018-2019

We are looking for volunteers of all kinds! We are currently accepting nominations for 2018-2019 PTO officers, plus we need two parents from each grade to be representatives on the PTO Board, and many other types of volunteers. We need your help!

Elections for officer positions will be held during the April 17 meeting at 6pm. If you are interested, come to a PTO meeting and fill out a volunteer interest form. Thank you for being an engaged family!

Volunteer types and descriptions:

Elected Officer Positions:
President: Lead monthly meetings, work with PTO Board to create agendas, serve as primary contact for the principal; serve as ex oficio member of all committees and coordinate the work of committees to ensure that the purpose of the organization is served; act as a representative of  the organizations to the community.

Vice-President: Assist the president, carry out the president’s responsibilities when he/she is absent, assist in coordinating the work of the committees.

Treasurer: Keep accurate records of the receipts and expenditures, receive and pay
out all funds in accordance with the approval of the PTO board, present financial
 statements at meetings and as requested by the board, prepare and present
a full report at the end of each year., assist with annual audit.

Secretary: Create monthly agenda, record meeting minutes, coordinate
communication and notices and meetings to parents and teachers, keep a list of
meeting attendees, records for the organization, copies of the minutes, agendas,
bylaws, and any other necessary documents and supplies.

Additional Board Members:
Parent Grade Level Representatives: Attend PTO Meetings, assist the board in creating and approving annual budget, participate in committees and events, facilitate communication between the organization and the parents/teachers in each grade level. Two reps per grade level are needed.

Teacher Representatives: Attend PTO Meetings; serve on committees,  develop the budget; help shape the direction of the organization; communicate between the PTO and teachers.

District Advisory Representative: Attend DAC and PTO Meetings, represent FLA families and their needs to KCPS Board of Education and share district news with FLA families.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities and Committees:
Room Parents - Serve as a room parents and help recruit others to assist with
classroom/teacher needs; plan seasonal room parties; chaperone field trips,
updating bulletin boards and making copies.

Parent Education & Support  - Plan educational workshops for parents; organize
uniform donations and sale, identify and assist with other parent needs

Community Building:  Organize  Kindergarten welcome at Boo Hoo Breakfast; plan school social events; represent the PTO at welcome tables during school events;
assist in student recruitment efforts by attending  school fairs and networking;
reach out to FLA families to help PTO understand their needs, and promote their
involvement; help provide or recruit volunteers to aid in translation during meetings
and of print/online materials.

Auditing - Provide annual review of the PTO finances.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation - Organize or assist with two annual teacher/staff luncheons during parent/conference days. Plan Teacher Appreciation Week  in May.

Grounds - Organize and assist with efforts to clean up and enhance the school building grounds; planting trees & flowers and other projects as needed.

Book Fair - Organize or assist with two annual book fairs; recruit volunteers to help,
communicate with Scholastic to reserve materials, set up times for teachers to bring
classes; distribute information to students and families to promote the fair.

Communications: Help share news to the school community through emails, blog posts, social media, bulletin boards and newsletters.

Fall Carnival - Plan, promote, recruit volunteers, and assist with the annual Carnival;
includes decorations, games, prizes, refreshments, and inflatables.

Safety: Assist with improving and maintaining safe school arrival and dismissal
procedures.

Fundraising - Lead or assist in fundraising efforts including Box Tops, Book Fair, Carnival,
Restaurant Nights, plus new ideas are welcome!
