PTO Officer Elections have been postponed until our next meeting May 16 from 6-7:30pm. Thank you to all our volunteers who served this year. Elections will be held to fill officer positions for 2016-2017. We are accepting nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Volunteers are also needed for Grade Level Representatives that make up the PTO Executive Board. Two representatives are needed per grade. Additional volunteer leaders are needed for a variety of other positions including: Hispanic Community Liaison, Fall Carnival, Hospitality, Teacher Appreciation, Grounds, Fundraising, Book Fair, Student Recruitment, and Auditing. President - Responsibilities: Lead monthly meetings, serve as primary contact for the principal; work with executive board and school administration to create meeting agendas; act as a representative of the organizations to the community; coordinate the work of the committees to ensure that the purpose of the organization is served.
Vice-President - Responsibilities: Assist the president, carry out the president’s responsibilities when he/she is absent.
Treasurer - Responsibilities: Keep accurate records of the receipts and expenditures, receive and pay out all funds in accordance with the approval of the executive board, present financial statements at meetings and as requested by the executive board, prepare and present a full report at the end of each year.
Secretary - Responsibilities: Work with president and executive board to create monthly agenda, record meeting minutes, coordinate communication and notices and meetings to parents and teachers, keep a list of meeting attendees, keep records for the organization, keep copies of the minutes, agendas, bylaws, and any other necessary documents and supplies.
Grade Level Representatives - Responsibilities: Work with president and executive board to create monthly agenda, record meeting minutes, coordinate communication and notices and meetings to parents and teachers, keep a list of meeting attendees, keep records for the organization, keep copies of the minutes, agendas, bylaws, and any other necessary documents and supplies.
Fundraising Coordinator - Responsibilities: Recruit volunteers to lead various fundraising efforts including the Fall Carnival, Square 1 Art, Box Tops, Book Fair. Assist in planning as needed. Coordinate when fundraising efforts occur to avoid overlap.
Auditing Committee - Responsibilities: Annual review of the treasurer’s end of year financial statement.
Hispanic Community Liaison - Responsibilities: Reach out to families whose primary language is Spanish to help the organization understand their needs, and promote their involvement in the organization and in school events. Help provide or recruit volunteers to aid in translation during meetings and translation of the organization’s print/online materials.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee - Responsibilities: Organize teacher/staff luncheons during parent/conference days. Coordinate volunteers to assist with Teacher Appreciation Week and any other appreciation efforts.
Hospitality Committee - Responsibilities: Organize refreshments for Boo Hoo Breakfast for Kindergarten parents on the first day of school; represent the school at welcome/sign-in tables during school events/open houses - Literacy, Math and Art nights, African American History Program, Chinese New Year Program.
Grounds Committee - Responsibilities: Coordinate efforts to clean up and enhance the school building grounds; planting trees & flowers and other projects as needed.
Book Fair Coordinator )s) - Responsibilities: Organize week-long book fair; recruit volunteers to help with set-up, and to work during the week to help students visiting the fair; receive all incoming funds; communicate with Scholastic to reserve materials and submit funds; communicate with teachers to set up dates for classes to visit the fair; distribute information to students and families to promote the fair.
Recruitment Committee - Responsibilities: Work with school administration to increase student recruitment efforts; attend community events to promote FLA; use social media and community contacts to increase community awareness of our school.
Fall Carnival Committee - Responsibilities: Plan, promote, and recruit volunteers to carry out the Fall Carnival, the PTO’s biggest annual fundraiser. Carnival typically has a theme and includes decorations, games, prizes, refreshments, and inflatables.
