FLA has many fundraisers throughout the year.  Because we know every family is different, we try to offer different ways to help.  Families do not need to contribute to every fundraiser, but we hope one or more of these will work for you.

Dress down for $1 Day - many Fridays throughout the year are free dress days, when students may come out of uniform if they bring $1 to class.

Box Tops - cut out and collect Box Tops from participating products and bring them to school.  Each Box Top counts for 10¢ to the school.  Learn more at this link: Box Tops for Education.

Fall Carnival - buy tickets for games and raise money for the school.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year!

Book Fair - discounted Scholastic books, posters and other items are available for sale in La Plaza.  This usually happens once or twice per year.

Target Red Cards - if you have a Target credit card, you can request that a percentage of your spending be sent to a school through their Take Charge of Education program. Be sure to pick FLA as your school of choice.

Family Dinners - Buy your family dinner during one of our Math, Language, or Art events throughout the year and raise money for the school.

World Culture Celebration Raffle - Donate or help solicit items to use in the raffle, then buy raffle tickets for a chance to win big.

Square 1 Art - purchase your student's artwork printed on a variety of objects like t-shirts, trivets, wall art, magnets or bookmarks.

POW! Store donations - Throughout the year, students receive POW! cards from their teachers for showing great behavior at school.  Students can redeem these cards to buy trinkets, toys, candy, posters and other fun items.  Donations to the store of gently used (but clean) toys, snacks, or discounted items may be dropped off at the office for Vice Principals Ms. Debra Lainez and Dr. Krista Sly.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways parents can help at Foreign Language Academy.  Below is a list of some of the opportunities available.

Room Parents - Help coordinate the parents in your child's classroom to put together seasonal parties - Fall, Winter, and Friendship.  You will send home a letter (see sample) asking parents if they can help with a donation of food, drink, or party supplies, and to ask if the parent can attend and help during the party. Many parents and teachers also work together to plan games, crafts or other activities during the party.

Fall Carnival - Many parents are needed to work a shift at one of the games or stations during the carnival.

Book Fair - Many parents are needed to work a shift during the week long book fairs.  These are fundraisers for the school and a great way to get books into the homes of our students.

Special Events - Help set up and organize events like the Black History Program, World Culture Celebration, and Field Day.

Volunteer in the classroom or in the office - Parents who wish to volunteer in the building, outside of our seasonal parties, must complete the volunteer application process through KCPS, and have a background check.  Once you are approved, you may coordinate with your child's teacher or the office to come and volunteer when it is convenient for the teacher and you.  More information can be found at this link: KCPS Volunteer Opportunities
